By creating the International Day of Peace, the UN devoted itself to worldwide peace and encouraged all of mankind to work in cooperation for this goal. Since its inception, Peace Day has marked the individuals’ personal and planetary progress toward peace. It has grown to include millions of people in all parts of the world, and each year events are organized to commemorate and celebrate this day. Events range in scale from private gatherings to public concerts and forums where hundreds of thousands of people participate. Whereas the United Nations International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the Children of the World (2001-2010) was from the civil society for the United Nations, a Ten-Years Campaign.
Herein, by the 1st Anniversary of WupY, the idea was to organize a Ten-Days Campaign for young people in the world to express their opinions in writing (articles, Blogging and poetry from young people), art gallery for artistic expression and Podcast about Culture of Peace, stimulating the uses of new tools and new materials that foresee the challenge of creating peace within a multidisciplinary campaign. The Campaign benefited from the spread of using the Internet and the ease of communication it provides. The Campaign hosted on the pages of WupY and published among target youth by our partners.
The campaign succeeded as it was mentioned in the “Annual Report 2009: Culture of Peace Initiative (CPI)” that was dedicated to UNESCO’S International Decade for the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children in the World (2001-2010) and the UN Millennium Development Goals, which was under the theme of “Uniting the strengths of existing individuals & organizations building Cultures of Peace for future generations”
In addition, the Campaign was interviewed by media, such as: Nile Culture Channel, Nile TV International, Radio Horytna, and a song was devoted to the campaign by the singer: Ahmed Salem, Ahmed Osman, Ahmed Abdullah, Manar, Haidy, Nehad, and narrated by Mr. Osama Monir.
